Label:
A spinning top made from volcanic tuff, shaped with a flat top and spherical base. There is a wooden spindle inserted through a hole drilled in the centre. It is decorated with the design of a turtle, painted using red and white ochres and Reckitt’s Blue. It is said to be used for men's competitive games, and is known as "kulaap" or "kolap" by the Meriam people. It was collected from Mer (Murray Island) by C. Hedley and A.R. McCulloch in 1907.
