Label:
A model of a fish beater. It has a long bamboo shaft attached to a spherical ball of banana stem or other plant fibre with a plaited fibre strip. A real fish beater is up to 3 metres long with a cabbage-sized head. They are used in pairs to drive fish into a conical fish scoop. It was collected for the Museum by C. Hedley and A.R. McCulloch in 1907. (66x134.5cm)
