Sideview of a mask representing a crocodile's head, made from turtle-shell with a bamboo framework. It is painted red and blue and the long snout (representing a kingfish 'daborr') is decorated with cassowary feathers, cloth strips and shells hung underneath. It also has a bunch of sago fibre hung from the back. The teeth and ears are made of wood. It was said to be worn by men in 'kap' (dance) ceremonies and is called "tete" or "kar" by the Meriam people. It was collected by C. Hedley and A.R. McCulloch in 1907. (80x27cm.)
